New generation high tension electrical pylons designed for EDF have pure lines, all the better to integrate the landscape. They are an assemblage of three main parts - body, trunk and antenna – combined to adapt to several configurations at varying height. The different parts are assembled by bolted plates.
The main body anchored to the ground is composed of steel tubes juxtaposed in a discontinuous ellipse pattern that attenuates perception of their mass. It is surmounted by a trunk made of a simple steel tube that carries the arms from which are suspended the electricity cables. The antenna at the top of the pylon is in easy continuity with the trunk. The elegance of these pylons derives from the gradual upwards tapering of component parts over their full height of 72 m.
