- Extending the historic east-west axis of Paris to the west, the La Jetée promenade is laid out amidst a hanging garden. Like a marine jetty, a metal footbridge steps over the ring road from the western approaches of the Grand Arch and extends in a straight line over a distance of 400 m, carried by central metal pillars which scan the entire length. A longitudinal steel beam constitutes the main support of the iroko wood deck. The guard-rail supports are integrated to the structure to form an homogeneous whole.
